Infinite Bargepole

Isn’t it funny how the absent take the blame for everything bad but get none of the kudos for anything good?

sat round the campfire

blaming the wayward

culpable prodigal

for all the heinous

that outcast

an intractable leper

who stains our

shiny haloes

his mere existence

brings doubt upon

our slanting italic

the bedtime narratives

our angelic natures

safe, untarnished

by his uncleanliness

his fetid disease

at arm’s length

further still

the infinite bargepole

not even with which

to touch him

that absent abscess

who can not

does not, exist
