Paths Untrodden

Out of the sidings

clickety- clack, clickety-clack

from Morden to Edgware

thence and then back

Day after day

hour after hour

seething with people

drive past the Tower

Does the train know that it is bound?

Past all the posters

billboards and stuff

when will it be

that he shouts enough?

Out of the sidings

clickety- clack, clickety-clack

from Morden to Edgware

thence and then back

The train has never heard of roads, much less mountain paths.

Same as the others

and comfortably so

doing his job

the one that he knows

What are these pictures

which daily he sees

away from the tunnels

and what are these trees?

The train starts to dream at night

5AM and it starts once again

clickety- clack, clickety-clack

from Morden to Edgware

thence and then back

He longs for some difference

to his daily life

yearns for adventure

far from the strife

Up in an office

far from his line

a meeting of mortals

soon changes his wine

Out of the sidings

clickety- clack, clickety-clack

from Cockfosters to Uxbridge

thence and then, back

The train is still a train caught by the tracks of his life.

He treads the same or similar path each day

Change is cosmetic because he does not have courage,

it is his fate to be bound by it.
