Family Research – MBE

I have been delving a little into my family research and this is the MBE citation for my half uncle, when serving at FARELF.

It is signed by a Major General John Mather Kirkman and General John Harding.

It is easy to find information about Harding but more difficult for Kirkman.

It seems that my uncle although down as “Signals” may also have worked with military intelligence.

These signatories were very distinguished and it is probably not too surprising that an MI officer is a little shadowy. I seem to remember that subsequently my uncle worked out of Horse Guards parade as “Head of Signals, London” or some such title.

My dad got posted to Malaya at the same time perhaps with an assist from his older brother.

When I was considering joining the Commando reserves as a student, the door was open.

But I was a bit too much of a hippie…
