Shortcomings and Blind Spots

The shortcomings are quite literally our blind spots. Everyone has at least one and that is Egotism. The degree of shortcoming may vary. Some have them in spades.

Active Shortcoming: Self-importance
Behaviour: Self-opinionated, arrogant, self-centred, pompousness, holier-than-thou, longwindedness
Passive Shortcoming: Self-pity
Behaviour: Victim/martyr, hard-done-by, unappreciated, fear of exposure, fear of being wrong, fear of criticism.


Many have at least one additional shortcoming.

The higher the number of the dark jewel so to speak, the more destructive the shortcoming.

When the shortcoming is “triggered” people behave in a very destructive way and are absolutely unaware, {at least at first} that they are doing this. The theory goes that if one works at bringing the dark jewel into light one heads towards freedom. I personally concur with this theorem.

Say for example you are self-opinionated, arrogant and pompous, you would be completely unaware of the fact. You might even imagine yourself to be thoroughly justified in your behaviours and so you INFLICT them on others. Someone else might deem you arrogant and tell you but you would not accept their version of things because you are arrogant. You would be unaware and unaccepting of this notion, completely blind to it.

The idea being is that one can flip between the active and passive expression of the shortcoming at the drop of a feather. It is very easy for someone who is self-centred to feel hard-done-by or unappreciated.

“I am so important and wonderful, yet nobody appreciates my magnificence.”

There is a lack of balance and near constant oscillation.

If for example you express “self-opinionated” the idea is to first of all note when you are being self-opinionated and then try to learn how to open your mind if only a tad. Slowly, step by step, you bring this aspect of the shortcoming out of the dark and into the light. In other words, you e-volve. You change for the better towards harmony and balance and away from dissonance.
