To Cap It All – Water Running Down the Light Fitting

Last night just after dinner I noticed water dripping out of the light fitting. The wires are connected with terminal blocks, the sort you might use in a physics experiment lash-up. These are, to my horror, quite common here. The water was running over the live wires, down the light bulb and onto the floor.

Shocking…

So, I had to flip the fuse switch and turn off the mains. In France they do a ring main for each room / set of rooms. The lighting is on the same circuit as the power sockets and the electric shutters. I turned off the central heating in case there was a leak and the water flow stopped. Preliminary diagnosis we have a leaking central heating pipe above the lounge.

I had to move two wardrobes by myself to access the plumbing in the vain hope that there was an isolation tap. There wasn’t.  I had to move the oxygen concentrator to a different circuit. Because the socket it was on was no longer live.

This kind of shit against the backdrop of everything else happening is not fun.

It is said that a warrior lives by challenge. OK. I get it. Now can you please back off a tad before I blow a fuse and lose the foxtrotting plot entirely? Please. Pretty please….

We called a plumber and they arrived as and when they said they would. Miracles do happen.

I had to show the dude our complex plumbing and try to explain in French how it works. He reckons that it is not a central heating problem but a slightly leaky roof.

Now I am going to have to learn roofer speak…

If I had a tether, I would be quite close to its end…

Ok Chicken Jalfrezi…coming up…
